There are a lot of people who have wondered whether or not it is truly healthy to eat food that is high in the Glycemic Index. This is because of all the facts that have been said about carbs being bad for you and also being bad for the body in general. In the case of the glycemic index, it has been proven that carbohydrates will make you fat if you consume them in large amounts.
When someone hears the word “glycemic”, they think of those who have tried out the fad diets. For instance, the Atkins Diet, which was known for its low-carb foods. The glycemic index was designed to try and determine how many carbs an item could cause the person to feel hungry.
Before we talk about how paleo is different, let’s take a look at what fad diets are all about. Most of these diets revolve around counting the number of carbs that you eat in a day. They typically have a list of foods that are good and which should be avoided, usually because of the fact that these foods are going to cause a weight gain.
However, a typical Paleo diet will not have this kind of thing. There will be only a few items on the list that will cause the person to become hungry. These items are the ones that you would find in paleo.
So what exactly does the body need? Well, the body needs carbohydrates for the proper functioning of the body. These carbohydrates include glucose, starch, etc.
It is a well-known fact that different carbs are good for you. But when you eat too much of the wrong kinds of carbs, you can cause your body to suffer from hunger. Carbohydrates are needed for glucose to become available.
Now that you know what carbs are needed, let’s talk about eating them. First of all, it has been said that carbohydrates are needed to get our bodies started when we are eating. This is especially true during the first stages of eating when you are still figuring out what foods will be good and what won’t be.
Secondly, there is actually no right or wrong carbohydrate. As long as the carbs are being used by the body for energy, they are completely healthy for the body.
In addition to that, there is a solid foundation of food that is a good source of carbohydrates. That foundation includes common items such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, and yams. Of course, the more exotic things such as dark meat and dark green leafy vegetables are also great sources of carbs.
It should be very clear to see now that just because you need carbs, does not mean that you have to limit them. You can eat the same foods and still have a healthy body.
